Filament quantity usage

Jorge Apr 11, 2017 02:04PM PDT

I am running a little low on filament on a spool and have a design to print, is there any way to judge how much PLA filament a custom design I upload to the site will use? The site doesn't seem to estimate how much PLA the design will need even when I choose print settings.

Hello Jorge,

This is Nick with New Matter support. Thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately, at this time there is no way to tell how much filament a given print will need prior to starting the print job. So sorry about that.

I can say that this is a feature that other users have requested and that our design team has been looking into ways that such a feature might be integrated into the New Matter Store platform. At this time I cannot say when or if such a feature would ultimately make its way to the New Matter Store, but it’s definitely something we are looking at.

In case you weren’t aware, if you do decide to print this item and you notice that you will run out of filament before the item finishes, it is possible to pause the printer, load a fresh spool of filament, and then unpause and continue the print job. Not exactly what you had in mind, I realize, but this method may work out for you in the short term.

Thanks again for your question,
