We currently have a printer in our high school library for students to use. We are trying to figure out the best way to charge for the print jobs, but everything I find online requires at least knowing how much filament will be used. I have not been able to find this anywhere. Can you please direct me to the right place?
Hi Lisa, thanks for your question. Unfortunately there is no exact science to estimating the amount of prints one can get from one roll of PLA filament. It is dependent on the size of the designs, the complexity of the designs printed, and the print quality settings chosen from job to job. The closest way to figure this out may be to calculate by lengths of filament, as there are approximately 170 meters of PLA per each spool. Please keep in mind that this is not an exact science, especially if a higher infill percentage is used, but that would likely be your best starting point.
